Older Persons Act (Chapter 17:11)

The Older Persons Act establishes the legal framework for the welfare and protection of older persons in Zimbabwe. It recognizes the rights of older persons and aims to promote their well-being, social integration, and access to appropriate care. The Act provides for the registration and regulation of institutions that provide care and accommodation to older persons, including old people’s homes. It sets out the licensing requirements, standards of care, and procedures for the registration and inspection of these institutions.

The Social Welfare Act governs social welfare services in Zimbabwe. It covers a wide range of social welfare issues, including the regulation of social welfare institutions. The Act provides for the registration, monitoring, and regulation of old people’s homes and other social welfare institutions. It sets standards for the management, staffing, and operation of these institutions to ensure the well-being and protection of residents. The Act also outlines the procedures for licensing, inspections, and enforcement of regulations.

The Public Health Act deals with public health matters in Zimbabwe. It includes provisions relevant to the operation of old people’s homes, particularly in ensuring the health and safety of residents. The Act sets standards for sanitation, hygiene, waste management, and disease control within these institutions. It empowers health authorities to conduct inspections, issue guidelines, and take necessary measures to maintain public health standards in old people’s homes.

The Labour Act governs employment relationships in Zimbabwe. It covers various aspects of employment, including terms and conditions of employment, wages, working hours, and occupational health and safety. Old people’s homes must comply with the provisions of the Labour Act in relation to their employees. This includes ensuring fair employment practices, providing safe working conditions, and adhering to minimum wage and working hour requirements.
